Without question, Melania Trump is one of our most elegant and impressive Frist Ladies in recent decades. She carries herself with poise and exudes genuine, quiet compassion for others, all while under immense pressure from her detractors. Her exceptional qualities are often underestimated, simply because she’s stunningly gorgeous and married to liberal Americans’ nemesis. Melania is not the woman that the mainstream media and mass amount of haters have made her out to be. She’s far better than that and after months of enduring a silent struggle has now had enough and has unloaded on a major celebrity who definitely had it coming.
Melania usually observes and listens more than she speaks. This is not because she doesn’t have an opinion or can’t think for herself, but because of respect. She saves her voice for times when she has something important or impactful to say and not just talk to talk. This was definitely one of those times and had saved up months of frustration from abuse to finally end it once and for all.
It is rare for Melania Trump to issue a statement of any sort. The first lady, who has sometimes seemed reluctant about her new role, prefers privacy and restraint.
Yet she chose to speak up forcefully, nearly a full day after a gruesome photo of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a prop made to resemble the bloody, decapitated head of President Trump was posted online.
On Tuesday, the photo was condemned by a bipartisan chorus of politicians and pundits as soon as it went public; hours later, Griffin apologized in a video statement. The Trumps did not seem to accept the apology, with the president tweeting the next morning that his children, “especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
But the first lady issued a longer statement midday Wednesday: “As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing. When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it.”
While the president often blasts his opponents on Twitter, it is rarer for his wife to join him. She refrained from using social media during the first weeks of his presidency and generally stayed out of the political fray during his campaign.
This incident and her response to it has resurfaced again today as a reminder of her burgeoning approach to public life. She pushes back hard in defense of her reputation and her family, which she has done again recently after coming under scrutiny for allegations against her husband’s infidelity.
Rather than attacking her for not speaking, or how she speaks when she does (with an accent, as late night show host Jimmy Kimmel recently did), or what she chooses to speak out about, Melania should be praised for her fearless defense of her family. This is a quality that is missing in much of society as families are divided, the unit is broken, and core values are non-existent. She as a mother and a wife represent what needs to be celebrated and restored in America.
When the left has nothing to attack someone over, they attack what’s good just to have something to hate that person for. This is a prime example of that.
